Weekend Wrap-up

Was a good one –  a real good one. We caught up with friends, took some good old sun rays to the body and spent a whole lot of time swimming, talking, bbq’ing and drinking at a social level.

We started it off with an early Saturday start. Cel drove back from Toowoomba after getting the car serviced and came back super early so that she could get there in time to come along for the ride to the airport to drop Bruce off. He’s currently on a serious 2 month holiday in the Americas. Lucky bastard…

So we then gathered our things together, loaded up the wagon and proceeded up north firstly to our mates the Stotts. We had a super relaxing time and both Thor and Dexter were really having a ball playing in the pool and scooter biking all over the place. Ant made a decent BBQ and we dined outside in the balmy brissie weather. Although those damn mosquito’s were troublesome – still got one or two damn itchy bites to deal with. We all crashed big time. I blame the kids for sapping all our energy and then Thor proceeded to keep us going at night. Got to a stage where he was kicking off like a monkey at around midnight so “apparently” i got up and took him out the cot and brought him into the bed. I was so tired that I have no recollection of any of it. He then decided that this was not ideal and pushed cel out of the bed. So with cel now sleeping on the floor next to the bed for the past hour or so Thor decided to land the killer blow and rolled himself off with immense WWF skills and landed an elbow flush on cel’s head! I was told the next day what went down. Trying to suppress the laughter was not easy at all.

So with a bad night’s sleep it was inevitable that the morning was going to be an early one and sure enough 5:15am his royal highness decided that the bedroom had become boring and there was definitely more fun to be had downstairs! what the heck, so there we are downstairs everyone sleeping and I’m on the couch with monkey nuts trying to a.) keep him quiet b.) trying to entertain him and c.) working out my revenge.

Slowly but surely everyone in the house appeared and one look at the weather meant beach time. Damn well beach time i tell ya!! So loaded up the cars and headed down to Redcliffe. I had never been there before and heard it was a nice place to go for a walk etc. So we arrived and found a great bench to setup at and within shouting distance of a BBQ. In Australia they have these built in BBQ’s that run on gas. Anyone can use them and you just clean it all up afterwards for the next person. The pic below sort of shows the BBQ and also the awesome weather we had for it.

So after some seriously good turkish bread rolls filled with fried egg, crispy bacon and baked beans it was time to take the boys out for a swim. The beach we were on has a dedicated lifeguard service as well as what seems a pretty equipped club house and the place was full of all the nippers doing their training drills. They start off fairly young it seems and Thor is definitely going to be a part of the setup one day. The water was perfect and the bay super flat. So after the mandatory ozzie rub down of factor 30 suncream all over the body we jumped right in! Boys had a ball and the moms also jumped in to have a dip to cool down. We then spent another session in the park playing on the swings before packing up and heading off the beach to grab an ice-cream.

Back home and all unpacked everyone sort of crashed in their own little way. I was draped over the couch trying to follow the Australian Open golf. Wasn’t happening though and I soon crashed.

Massive thanks to the Stott’s for being such wonderful hosts and providing some great company! Although Ant reckons he’s quite a witty fool which is a good laugh. How you put up with him Katie is beyond me ;)

So we had a spot of lunch and then started getting organised for our departure to Ben, Ted and Michelle’s place. A quick stop off at Westfield Chermside to grab a birthday present for Michelle and then we were on our way. We haven’t seen the Priebe’s for a while now and the biggest change one could say is that Ted now walks. A walking baby is an awesome baby! So the little guy is solid now and an absolutely gorgeous kid. He seems to eat anything in front of him. So pretty much the opposite of Thor who seems to eat whenever he damn well feels like it. We immediately got into our costumes and hit their pool up. Awesome pool and perfect conditions once again.

Snacks near the pool and a cold beer were consumed and then we moved in for a delicious roast dinner cooked by Michelle. This was after we had a display in Thor’s impeccable eating skills and consequent struggle to get him to eat which normally entails numerous time outs in the naughty corner, threats about the boogie man coming to bite his bum, all fun to ever be had from this day forward removed and never to return, stare downs, smacks to the bottom followed by more psychological warfare. This possibly made Ben and Michelle thankful for Ted’s eating. We are pretty full on with regards to discipline and manners with Thor but then again he’s a massive character and really needs it.

So we had dinner and retired to the lounge to laze about and chat some more. Before long we realised the time had come to make a move. So off we went with a promise to make our visits more frequent, which we must do! We also discussed that night out in Chinatown with the Thomas’ that really needs to happen sans children. Probably more than likely in the new year. So Gerrod and Kristy take note ;)

So back home and the weekend fizzled out nicely.

Will load some pics up when I get home this evening although if I get killed at waterpolo tonight then that may be delayed slightly. Check the Photos link up the top.

Thanks once again to all involved and hey for a first post not too boring i reckon.

Take care all and chat soon
